The Ohio State Board of Optometry will be transitioning to a new licensing and renewal website this summer.

The new eLicense system operates in a secure web-based environment and will eliminate the need for paper applications, paper renewals and payments via personal checks. The system will provide confirmation of fee payments and application submissions and will improve the ability of the Board to communicate with and guide you through the licensure and renewal process. All Boards and Commissions are moving to the new system, so it isn't optional.

Over the next few months you will be receiving eLicense login information (including a security code) from the Board. Once you log in to eLicense for the first time, you will be asked to enter the following information:

  • Email Address (the one on file with the Board)
  • Security Code (will be mailed to you in June)
  • Social Security Number
  • Date Of Birth

All renewals, new license applications, reinstatements and other service requests will be processed online. You will not be able to establish an account or complete the renewal process without a valid email address on file with the Board.

Questions? You are always welcome to email the Board of Optometry at or call 1-888-565-3044.

We will continue to provide you information and updates as this rolls out for the next renewal season.
